Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 29, 2026

This policy explains what personal data doku.bitorbit.biz collects, why it does so, how long the data is kept, and what you can do about it. The site is the demo and documentation site for Doku, a WordPress theme for software documentation.

Who we are

The site is operated by bitorbit, the controller of the personal data described here. For anything related to privacy, email info@bitorbit.biz.

The short version

  • Reading the documentation and the blog needs no account and sets no cookies.
  • Comments are closed and there is no registration or newsletter, so the site never asks for your name or email address.
  • There is no analytics, advertising or tracking, and pages load nothing from other websites.
  • Our host’s security system logs your IP address and the pages you request, and deletes that log after 12 days.
  • We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not use it for profiling or automated decisions.

What we collect and why

Visiting the site

Like every website, this one receives some technical information with each request: your IP address, the date and time, the address of the page you asked for, the response status, and your browser’s user agent string. Two systems record it:

  • Security log. The Security Optimizer plugin from our host, SiteGround, keeps an activity log of visits, bot crawls and login attempts so that we can spot and block attacks. Entries are deleted automatically after 12 days.
  • Server logs. SiteGround keeps standard web server logs to run and protect its hosting service, for the period set out in its own privacy policy.

We rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and available (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use these logs to build profiles of visitors.

Search

The instant search in the header runs entirely in your browser: the site sends your browser an index of the documentation, and what you type never leaves your device. If you open the full search results page, your query becomes part of the page address and is recorded in the logs above like any other request.

Rating an article

When you answer “Was this helpful?” on a documentation page, we add one to that page’s count of positive or negative ratings. Nothing that identifies you is stored with the rating. Your browser remembers that you have rated the page, so you are not asked again.

Emails

If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply to you, and keep them only as long as we need to deal with your request. We rely on our legitimate interest in answering the people who contact us (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Comments and accounts

Comments are closed on this site. The comments shown under some blog posts are sample content written for the demo, not contributions from real visitors. There is no public registration: accounts exist only for the people who maintain the site.

Cookies and browser storage

The site sets no cookies for visitors. The only cookies it uses are WordPress’s login cookies (wordpress_* and wp-settings-*) for the people who maintain the site, and those are never set for readers.

Three small preferences can be saved in your browser’s local storage, each only when you use the feature it belongs to:

KeyPurposeKept for
doku-themeYour light, dark or system color mode, saved when you use the switch in the header.Until you clear it
doku-tab-labelThe code tab you chose (for example “Python”), so that other tabbed examples open on the same one.Until you clear it
doku-vote-*Remembers that you rated a documentation page.Until you clear it

Local storage stays on your device and is never sent to our server. None of it is used for tracking, and you can remove it by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings. Because each item only remembers a choice you made on the site, none of them need a consent banner.

Who we share data with

  • SiteGround hosts the site and processes the data described above on our behalf, under its data processing terms. Its privacy policy is at siteground.com/privacy.
  • Public authorities, only when the law requires us to.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

SiteGround may store and process data in data centers outside your country. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, it relies on the safeguards data protection law requires, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Buying Doku on ThemeForest

Doku is sold on ThemeForest, part of Envato Market. Purchases, payments, purchase codes and the support questions you post in the item comments are handled by Envato under its own privacy policy at envato.com/privacy. This site never processes payments or purchase data.

How long we keep data

  • Security log: 12 days.
  • Server logs: for the period SiteGround sets.
  • Article ratings: anonymous counts, kept for as long as the page exists.
  • Emails: as long as needed to deal with your request.
  • Local storage: until you clear it, as listed above.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and similar laws, you have the right to:

  • find out whether we hold personal data about you, and get a copy of it;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data erased;
  • restrict our use of your data, or object to it.

To use any of these rights, email info@bitorbit.biz. The only data we hold about most visitors is in the logs, so to help us find it, include your IP address and roughly when you visited. We will reply within one month. We may have to keep some data where the law requires it.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, in particular in the country where you live or work, or where you believe the law has been broken.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Access to the WordPress dashboard is limited to the site’s maintainers and protected by our host’s security plugin.

Changes to this policy

When we change how the site handles personal data, we update this page and the date at the top.
